Ryan Sliwak, whose father passed on 9/11, to be featured on SportsDesk
In Sunday's paper was the story of brothers Chris and Tom Kelly of the Oyster Bay football team, who lost their father, Joseph, in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack of the World Trade Center.
Kelly worked at Cantor Fitzgerald, on the 105th floor of the North Tower.
Also working for Cantor Fitzgerald that day was Robert Sliwak, the father of current Wantagh wide receiver Ryan Sliwak (pictured).
Ryan, an All County football and baseball player who was a finalist for the Dragon Award (given to the county's best receiver) last season, was playing with a heavy heart last Saturday on the ninth anniversary of his father's death.
But he caught a five-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to give the Warriors a 21-0 lead in their season-opening 35-7 win over Long Beach.
Robert Sliwak was a 1977 graduate of Seaford High School, where he was an All County football player.
Ryan will be featured in a segment on tonight's High School SportsDesk on MSG Varsity, airing at 6 p.m. You can also read more about Sliwak here.
Wantagh visits Elmont at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon in a key Conference II matchup.
