The teams in the upper echelon of Suffolk II have shown a propensity to strut their stuff on one side of the ball. Riverhead, West Babylon and Half Hollow Hills West have been offensive juggernauts. Newfield, East Islip and Deer Park have stifling, hard-hitting defensive units.

On Wednesday, the East Islip defense shut down Hills West and its star Devante McFarlane, 28-7. It was a contrast of styles in wet weather in which the Redmen dominated field position and won the battle up front. This weekend offers a stellar matchup of the undefeated when star-studded West Babylon and its electric junior quarterback Clifton Melhado travels to Newfield to face the vaunted Wolverines defense in the MSG Varsity game of the week at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be televised Sunday on Cablevision iO Ch. 14 at 9 a.m.

The Eagles will look to get the ball to speedy wideout Michael Richardson against one of Suffolk's lockdown corners in Mike Silva, who has eight interceptions in the past two seasons. They'll also pound the hard underbelly of that Newfield defense with 220-pound halfback Reggie Robinson. Can linebackers Julian Santiago, Tom Diubaldo and Ron Denig shut down the Eagles? This one promises to be a real black and blue thriller.

Longwood (3-0) at Sachem North (3-0), Saturday, 6 p.m.: The size and brute force of Longwood against the speed and explosiveness of Sachem North will be showcased in this Suffolk I battle. The Lions, led by 310-pound Omari Palmer and 275-pound Darius Greene have allowed just 24 points. The Flaming Arrows, led by Dalton and Trent Crossan, have scored 94.

Islip (2-1) at Bellport (1-2), Saturday, 2 p.m.: This could be a low-scoring Suffolk II affair with hard-hitting defense. Joe Sabbatino led the Bucs to a tough 17-3 win over Comsewogue, which beat the Clippers earlier this season.

Eastport-South Manor (2-1) at Kings Park (1-2), Saturday, 2 p.m.: ESM had no problem last week, blanking East Hampton, 39-0, behind Matt Prokesch (134 yards on just five carries, including an 85-yard TD run).

Babylon (2-1) at Glenn (3-0), Saturday, 2 p.m.: The defending L.I. Class IV champion Knights have won 15 straight and QB Rich Czeczotka comes off a five-touchdown pass performance. The Panthers have scored 112 and allowed just 24.

Syosset (1-2) at Farmingdale (1-2), Saturday, 3 p.m.: Syosset needs to rebound after a Week 3 loss to MacArthur on a last-second field goal in Nassau I. The Dalers lost two straight and beat Hempstead last week -- a big game for both schools.

Mepham (3-0) at Wantagh (2-1), Saturday, 3 p.m.: The one blemish on Wantagh's record is a 21-3 loss to powerhouse Garden City in Nassau II. Meanwhile, Mepham comes into the game as a dragon slayer, beating preseason No. 1 seed Carey, 14-7. Is Mepham for real? Another win here says they are.

Bethpage (3-0) at Plainedge (2-1), Saturday, 3 p.m.: Bethpage is on a roll behind playmaker Danny Chillianis. Plainedge, which has given up nine touchdowns, including six rushing in Nassau III, can score with anyone. The Red Devils would welcome a shootout.

West Hempstead (3-0) at East Rockaway (2-1), Saturday, 3 p.m.: West Hempstead knocked off preseason No. 1 seed Seaford and edged Cold Spring Harbor, 7-3. East Rockaway is 2-1, its only loss coming against Roosevelt, 15-14.
