Senior Kelsey McGayhey had 16 points, including the 1,000th of her career as Shelter Island topped Ross, 41-22, in Suffolk League VIII girls basketball Friday. McGayhey, who has 1,015 points, hit the milestone 33 seconds in on a short jumper. Shelter Island improved to 7-2.
Longwood 46, Commack 41: Nicole Gazzola had all five of her points in overtime, including a jumper with 1:35 left to put Longwood (8-3) up 45-41 in League I. Commack's Chelsea Schultz hit a jumper at the buzzer to send the game into OT. Longwood's Kiery West had 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Whitman 49, Hills East 40: Hayley Mena had nine of her 14 points in a 14-5 second quarter for Whitman (8-3 League III).
Plainview JFK 49, Port Washington 40: Simone Oziel had 11 points to lead PJFK (1-10 Conference AA-II) to its first conference win since 2009.
Malverne 46, Friends Academy 42: Senior Karen Ulysse scored a career-high 19 points to lead Malverne (5-5) in Conference BC.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Hicksville 69, Valley Stream Central 58: Junior T.J. Danns had a career-high 27 points for Hicksville (7-4) in Nassau Conference AA-II.
Elmont 77, Great Neck South 52: Senior Michael Dugue scored a career-high 31 points for Elmont (11-1) in Conference AA-III.
Floral Park 71, Lynbrook 69: Lloyd Wheeler (21 points) hit a layup off a feed from Kevin Cluess as time expired to give Floral Park (5-4 Conference A-III) a double-overtime win. Wheeler hit three free throws late in the fourth to tie it at 52 and force OT. Lynbrook's Matt Murphy forced the second OT with a late jumper.
Brentwood 48, Patchogue-Medford 45: Eric Perdomo had 15 points and Ruben Terrero added eight points, six steals and eight rebounds for Brentwood (9-2) Suffolk in League I.
Sachem East 53, Sachem North 43: Joe Santarpia had 12 of his 26 points in a 19-4 fourth quarter as Sachem East (4-7 League I) overcame a 33-22 deficit.
St. Mary's 59, Holy Trinity 54: Jesse Govan made two free throws with 16 seconds left to seal the win for St. Mary's (5-3) in CHSAA. Govan had 29 points, 20 rebounds and six blocks in the win.
