Skylar Vitiello's goal helps Massapequa to fourth straight Class AA title

It wasn't the typical dominating performance fans have gotten used to seeing from Massapequa's girls soccer team, but the result was identical to what happened for the majority of the season.
A victory.
Julia Hannon sent a corner kick into the box with 12:37 remaining in the game. After a scramble in the box, senior Skylar Vitiello put the ball in for the go-ahead goal as No. 1 Massapequa won its fourth straight Nassau Class AA title, 3-2, over Port Washington Tuesday night. Vitiello's goal made it 2-1.
The Chiefs, two-time defending state champions, continue their quest for a three-peat at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Adelphi against the West Islip-Hauppauge winner.
Kyleigh Gallagher scored with 3:30 left to give the Chiefs a 3-1 lead. Caroline McCarthy answered for Port Washington a few seconds later to bring it to 3-2.
Sophomore forward Marisa Fischetti broke a scoreless tie with 28 minutes remaining in the first half to give Massapequa a 1-0 lead. Hope Breslin fielded a cross from the left, then headed it to Fischetti to set up the goal.
Port Washington tied it at 1 on sophomore Caroline McCarthy's gritty goal. After charging down the right sideline, she slipped over the ball but didn't give up on the play -- capturing a loose ball after Emma Cisneros' shot was blocked, and scoring with 10 minutes left in the first half.
Massapequa (16-1-1) has won 12 of the last 13 county titles. Port Washington played in its first county final.
