Garden City Maroon golfer Samantha Sessa played about as well she could yesterday on the second day of the NYSPHSAA Championship at SUNY Delhi.
But Baldwinsville’s Lauren Petty played just a little better.
Petty shot 2-under-par 70 yesterday, including a 33 on the back nine, to defeat Sessa by a shot, 145 to 146, over the 36 holes.
Sessa and Petty were tied after 27 holes, exchanging the lead until they were all square again with two holes to play. Petty made par and Sessa a bogey on the 17th. Both made par on 18 as Petty prevailed.
Longwood’s Emily Garrahan (157) took eighth and was the top Suffolk finisher. Mount Sinai’s Kristina Ly finished 12th, Smithtown West’s Kaitlin Clancy 13th and Northport’s Cameron Lambertson 15th.
Syosset’s Rohini Rudra and GC Maroon’s Alex Michielini tied for 22nd. Syosset eighth-grader Elizabeth Choi placed 24th.
Section V (1,095) took home the team title as Suffolk placed second (1,118) and Nassau finished third (1,141).
