The Suffolk girls golf championship was a battle of Smithtown. Smithtown East (908) bested Smithtown West (951) for the team title at Sunken Meadow Golf Course.

Katie Fitzharris (171) and Carly Peters (172) finished eighth and ninth as East won its first title in school history.

"We don't have a weakness, so most definitely, the amount of good players I have is what enabled us to win," East coach Bob Woods said.

East's Lauren Brennan shot 181, Lindsay Selman 192, Alexa Niven 192, and Casey Pollack 198. Best five scores counted.

Northport junior Krissy Unger won the individual title (156), one stroke ahead of Longwood's Emily Garrahan.

Unger fell behind by a stroke after missing a two-foot putt on the 16th. On the par-3 17th, she drained a 30-footer for birdie to pull even.

"I just read the break, but if the ball didn't hit the hole, that might have been a problem," Unger said after she birdied the 18th to win. "I knew I had to make a birdie to be safe."

Northport's Cameron Lambertson (161), Mt. Sinai's Kristina Ly, (162) and West's Victoria Snak (164) were among the other qualifiers for the state tournament beginning June 11 at SUNY Delhi.
