High school roundup: Baseball, softball and flag football

CJ Alfano went 2-for-3 with a triple, home run, four runs batted in and two runs scored to lead St. Anthony’s over visiting Kellenberg, 6-3, in a Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA baseball game on Thursday afternoon.
Alfano hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the third inning to start the scoring, and then hit a three-run homer in the fourth to give St. Anthony’s (3-0) a 6-0 lead. Alfano finished the season-opening series with six hits in nine at-bats.
In the top of the seventh, with the tying run at the plate, Tyler Mazurkiewicz entered and struck out the final two batters to earn the save. Jacob Vaccariello got the win, striking out five batters over four innings. Jaden Valdez went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for Kellenberg (0-3).
SOFTBALL
St. Anthony’s 10, Sacred Heart 0: Cienna Picchioni struck out six batters in four shutout innings to record her first varsity win for St. Anthony’s (3-0) in NSCHSAA action. Jacklyn Del Pozzo collected four RBIs. Angelina Garcia had three hits and three RBIs. Brianna Buckley also drove in three runs, while Gabriella King contributed three hits.
WEDNESDAY’S GAMES
Smithtown East 10, Bellport 0: Jayden Melville pitched a no-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks on 64 pitches to lead Smithtown East (3-2) in Suffolk III. She retired her first 20 hitters and faced just one over the minimum. Amelianna Santanello, Sam Brescia and Leila Piccoli each scored two runs, while Eva Roman had two hits.
Comsewogue/Port Jefferson 5, North Babylon 2: Kiki Napolitano went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and a stolen base to lead Comsewogue/Port Jefferson (3-1) in Suffolk II. Annikah Pashkin went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Lyla Reyes went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Maggie Burrell struck out five and allowed three hits in a complete game. Arianna Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Karli Gotta struck out nine for North Babylon (2-1).
FLAG FOOTBALL
WEDNESDAY’S GAME
Sachem East 21, Northport 19: Sofia Larrea found Kacey Berger for a 78-yard touchdown with 2:04 left in the fourth quarter to lead Sachem East (3-0) in Suffolk I. Larrea finished with 201 passing yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 23 yards. Berger caught five passes for 122 yards and had three sacks, six flag-pulls-for-loss and eight total flag pulls. Aubree Ellis caught two touchdowns from Larrea. Brooke Wasson had six flag pulls. Grace Gilmartin threw two touchdown passes and rushed for a third for Northport (3-1). Sarah Power caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Gilmartin in the third quarter to give Northport a 19-7 lead.
