Ryan Scarpelli took first in 15 minutes, 56 seconds as Sachem East won the boys varsity B cross country race at the Suffern Invitational at Bear Mountain Saturday. Zach Patsy finished sixth in 16:43 in the 3-mile race, Tom Rascona finished ninth in a time of 17:10 and Franklin Perez was 12th in 17:27.

Whitman second at VVS.

Zach Cammer took first in 16:40 as Whitman placed second overall out of fifteen teams in the 3.1-mile boys varsity race 2 at the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Invitational in upstate Vernon. Kris Moran of North Babylon was second in 16:31.1 in the 17-team boys varsity race 1.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Sachem North takes second. Kelly Lavan took fourth in 19:34 on the 3-mile course for Sachem North at the Suffern Invitational at Bear Mountain. Sachem North was second in the girls varsity A race with 91 points.

Paul wins.

Rachel Paul finished first by 43.8 seconds in 18:24.8 at the 3.1-mile VVF Invitational as Sachem East placed second in a 13-team girls varsity race 3.

FIELD HOCKEY

Bay Shore 5, Comsewogue 4: Liz Athing scored her third goal with 8:52 left to give Bay Shore a 5-2 lead. Jacqueline Ulrich score with 15 minutes left in the second period to give Bay Shore a 3-2 lead. Kyra Harney had three assists and Betsy Glynn had a goal for the winners. Carie Znaniecki and Alex Hagney each scored twice for Comsewogue.

Baldwin 2, Sewanhaka 1: Amanda Clemens scored a goal in overtime to lift Baldwin (1-1) over Sewanhaka in League III. Sam Nelson scored the first goal of her varsity career for Baldwin.

Sayville 3, Ward Melville 2: Sophomore Olivia Russell scored off a feed from Shannon Lipzin with 2:41 left in overtime to win it. Olivia Cabral and Taylor Mills also scored for Sayville.

GIRLS TENNIS

Baldwin 4, Plainedge 3:Joanna Sayed-Ahmed and Brianna Young defeated Amy Pepkin and Miranda Chiardulli 6-7 (7-5), 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) in the deciding third doubles match to lead Baldwin in Conference III-B.

Glen Cove 4, Hicksville 3: Rina Hernandez and Lauren Rizzo beat Christine Gatt and Karla Torres 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in fourth doubles as Glen Cove (1-1) prevailed in Conference III-A.
