McGuinness' OT goal wins it for C. Place

Freshman Shannon McGuinness' first varsity goal -- off a feed from Taylor Ruscillo -- came 2:30 into overtime and lifted Carle Place over Locust Valley, 3-2, Tuesday in non-league field hockey. Julia Palermo tied it at 2 with 17 minutes left in regulation for Locust Valley.

Rocky Point 1, Miller Place 0: Caitlynn Kundrat, Kristine Loscalzo and Cindy Russell each scored in strokes for Rocky Point in Suffolk Division III. Casey Heely made five saves for the Eagles.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Hampton Bays 3, Mattituck 2: Megan Walker had 16 kills and 12 digs and Lexi Giannone had 16 assists and 10 kills for Hampton Bays in a 22-25, 18-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-23 League VII win.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Hauppauge 26, Half Hollow Hills West 30: Ronny Cavaliere (17:12.0) and Ryan Colabella (17:16.0) took second and third in the 5k at Sunken Meadow State Park for Hauppauge in League IV. Anthony DeMatteo (17:06.0) won for Hills West.
