Pavels spurs VSS badminton victory
Melanie Pavels defeated Christine Dunkley in the deciding second singles match, 21-7, 21-14, to lead Valley Stream South in a 4-3 win over Baldwin in girls badminton on Friday.
Kristine Proseta and Dorris Chung beat Joelle Dopiton and Emma Garcia in first doubles, 21-17, 21-16 for Valley Stream South.
East Meadow 4, Levittown 3: Kim Asdahl beat Ayah Abdelnaby 21-15, 21-14, 21-14, in first singles to lift East Meadow. Anosh Sehra and Brianna Borrensan topped Sam Weissman and Ellen Chaelff in fourth doubles, 26-24, 21-14, for the Jets.
Garden City 4, Oceanside 3: Kelsey Tierney and Ashley Quatlander defeated Angela Lewis and Sarah Smith, 21-19, 23-21, in the deciding fourth doubles match to lead Garden City.
Mepham 5, Farmingdale 2: In first doubles, Mepham's Rachel Gordon and Alexa Horowitz defeated Jillian Roesca and Laura Krukowski, 14-21, 21-11, 21-11.
Elmont 6, Valley Stream North 1: Stacy Chukwumo won at first singles against Monica Batra, 21-9, 22-20, for Elmont.
Freeport 6, Uniondale 1: Niav Eliot and Chevonne McInnis defeated Jalisa Marino and Jaritza Soto, 20-22, 21-11, 21-17 at first doubles for Freeport.girls track
Cold Spring Harbor 81, Locust Valley 65, Wheatley 70, Malverne 24: Ariel Fieldman won the 100-meter hurdles, the high jump and long jump for Wheatley in Conference IV.
Miller Place 80, East Hampton / Bridgehampton 25: Katie DuBois finished first in the triple jump (35 feet, 2 inches), the 100 (13.2 seconds) and placed second in the 100 hurdles (17 seconds) to lead Miller Place in League V.
