Ringen scores 24 points to lift Harborfields
Justin Ringen had 24 points, including a pair of three-pointers in the final minute, to lift Harborfields to a 71-62 win over Kings Park in a League V boys basketball game Thursday night. Nick Fessenden had 20 points and 21 rebounds and Lucas Woodhouse had 20 points and 12 assists for the Tornadoes (11-0).
West Babylon 96, Huntington 64: Matt Sullivan scored 27 points, including his 1,000th, to lead West Babylon (11-1) in League IV. Sullivan, who needed 12 points to reach the milestone, got it on a three-pointer in the first quarter. He also had eight assists. Taylor Frisch added 24 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles, who clinched at least a share of the league title. Chris Doyle had 16 points and 10 rebounds for West Babylon.
Floyd 65, Ward Melville 51: Anthony White scored 23 points, including nine during a 22-9 second quarter, and had 17 rebounds, six assists and four blocks to lead Floyd (11-2) in League I. Tyler Hegarty scored 24 points for Ward Melville.
Riverhead 57, Smithtown East 41:Ben Edmund had 14 points, Ryan Bitzer scored 12 and Alex Sakhno added eight points and 12 rebounds to lead Riverhead (7-6 League III), which clinched a playoff berth.
Carey 54, Mepham 32: Andrew Gentile scored 17 points and Shawn Mason added 16 to lead Carey (2-11) in Conference AA-III. David Cedeno had seven points, 10 rebounds and four steals, and James Klein chipped in with seven rebounds and two blocks for Carey.
Chaminade 69, St. John's Prep 47: Kevin Sheehy had 25 points and James McCaffrey had 13 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three blocks to lead Chaminade (16-4) in a non-league game. Ryan Yearwood scored 24 points for St. John's Prep.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Long Beach 52, Valley Stream Central 37: Freshman Mary McDonagh had a career-high 16 points and Milly Martin added 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists for Long Beach (4-9) in Nassau Conference AA-III.
Centereach 47, Smithtown West 25: Dominique Wilson had 19 points and five steals and Jenna Agostino added 13 points, seven assists and four steals to lead Centereach (5-8) in Suffolk League III.
Smithtown East 61, Riverhead 47: Shannon O'Connor had 22 points, including 5-for-6 shooting from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to help seal the win, as Smithtown East (7-6 League III) clinched a playoff berth. Fran Busa had 14 points and Nicole Shevlin added 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Floral Park 34, Island Trees 30: Julia Schmidt had seven points and seven assists to lead Floral Park (11-4) in a non-league game. Maggie Milonakis had 10 points for Island Trees.
Sayville 46, Stony Brook 30: Amy Dean had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead Sayville (5-12) in non-league.
GIRLS FENCING
Great Neck South 14, Hewlett 2:Joyce Kasab won in foil to lead No. 1 Great Neck South in the Nassau playoffs. Great Neck South will play the winner of Oyster Bay-Manhasset Saturday.
