High school sports roundup: Football, soccer, field hockey
Vinny Feraca completed 28 of 37 passes for 268 yards and two touchdown passes and rushed for two TDs, including the winning 8-yard score in the second overtime period of visiting Connetquot’s 28-27 win over Whitman in Suffolk Division I football Saturday night. Steven Frias stopped Whitman on its potential winning two-point attempt to end the game.
Andrew Amarando had nine receptions for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Mike Catera had seven tackles, including three for a loss and a sack and Lucas Weaver had 10 tackles for Conentquot (5-1). Dylan Kollmer threw two touchdown passes for Whitman (3-3).
BOYS SOCCER
Locust Valley 3, Lynbrook 1: Stefanos Linardos scored three goals, two of which were assisted by Oscar Salinas, to lead No. 8 Locust Valley over No. 9 Lynbrook in the first round of the Nassau Class A playoffs on Monday. Owen Pye made five saves. Garrett Reid scored off an assist from Marco Pantano and Jake Prince made five saves for Lynbrook (7-9-1). Locust Valley (7-5-3) will visit No. 1 Mineola in the quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
GIRLS SOCCER
Bayport-Blue Point 2, Sayville 0: Connor Leahy and Kailey Bruckner each scored a goal to lead Bayport-Blue Point (11-2-1) in Suffolk VII. Lilly McInnes and Kaelyn Walsh each had an assist. Alex Kaler made nine saves. Olivia Moynihan made six saves for Sayville (7-2-3).
FIELD HOCKEY
Great Neck North 1, Great Neck South 0: Emily Aminian scored the winning short-handed goal late in the fourth quarter lead Great Neck North (7-4) in Nassau II. Maddy Mashieh assisted Aminian’s goal and Medalyn Ye made two saves to secure the Blazers’ first playoff berth in more than 20 years. Cecilia Ho made 16 saves for Great Neck South (0-10).
Patchogue-Medford 1, Smithtown East 0: Sophia Fox scored the winning goal 2:18 into overtime to lead Patchogue-Medford (8-6) in Suffolk I. Kate Comiskey made seven saves. Riley Connelly made four saves for Smithtown East (7-7).
