St. Anthony's Diliberto runs a state best

St. Anthony's Thomas Diliberto took first in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 6 minutes, 8.75 seconds Wednesday at the Port Jefferson Steeplefest.

It's the fastest time in New York State this season and the No.2 time in the country.

Bellport 73, North Babylon 66: Travis Correa won the 800 in 1:58 and Derek Palafox won the mile in 4:35.2 for Bellport (2-1) in League IV.

Hills West 82, Copiague 59: Anthony DeMatteo won the 1,600 (4:31) and the 3,200 (10:03) to lead Half Hollow Hills West (3-0) in League V.

Whitman 78.5, East Islip 57.5: Kyle Prestin won the 400 in 52.6 and the 200 in 22.9 for Whitman (2-2) in League III.

GIRLS TRACK

Smithtown East 88, West Islip 59: Deirdre Connor won the 1,500 (4:55.8), the 800 ( 2:27.2) and 3,000 ( 10:59.1) for Smithtown East (3-0) in a League III dual meet.

GIRLS BADMINTON

Jericho 4, Calhoun 3:April Pun and Maya Means defeated Marissa Levy and Lauren Strezenec, 21-18, 18-21, 21-19, in first doubles as Jericho (6-1) halted Calhoun's winning streak at 39 matches. Calhoun falls to 5-1 and into a first-place tie with Jericho in Conference I.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Chaminade 3, St. John the Baptist 0: Mike Todd, Kevin Joyce and James Duignan all had eight kills and Mike Lobben recorded eight kills and 18 assists to lead Chaminade (8-3) to a 25-14, 25-21, 25-14 win in CHSAA.
