Syers leads East Meadow volleyball win

Becky Syers had 25 assists, 10 kills and five aces as East Meadow overcame a one-game deficit and outlasted Syosset, 3-2, in Nassau Conference AA-I girls volleyball Thursday.

Jennifer Gundrum had 17 kills and three blocks, Taylor Conti had nine kills and Kerry Shapiro added eight kills for East Meadow in its 25-18, 22-25, 22--25, 25-17, 25-22 victory.

Oyster Bay 3, North Shore 1: Caroline Kelly had 15 digs and Danielle Augostinello had 13 assists for Oyster Bay in a 25-8, 25-19, 21-25, 25-23 win in Conference BC-II.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Plainedge 3, Wantagh 2: Casey Vieni had 14 kills and Rob Rizzacasa had 16 assists to lead Plainedge in a 25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-12 Conference III win.

Sachem East 3, Northport 1: Nick Laffin had 13 assists and eight kills for Sachem East in a 15-15, 25-19, 25-22, 25-19 non-league win.

BOYS GOLF

Massapequa 8, Clarke 1: Luke Layton shot an even 36 on the front nine on Bethpage Blue to lead Massapequa in Conference IV.

Mercy 8.5, Hampton Bays .5: Dan Hartmann shot 3-over 39 on the front nine at Olde Vine to lead Mercy in League VII. Catherine Brabazon shot 45 for Mercy.
