Velasquez scores twice to lift Huntington
Ricky Velasquez scored the game-winner off a pass from Jon Peña five minutes into the second overtime as Huntington beat Comsewogue, 2-1, in League IV boys soccer. Velasquez also tied the game at 1 with four minutes left in the second half for the Blue Devils (6-4).
Hills West 3, Deer Park 0: Donovan Fraser scored his 50th career goal to give Half Hollow Hills West (10-0) a 1-0 lead in League IV, according to coach Doug Gannon. Brett Nason had two assists, giving him 20 on the season.
East Islip 3, Riverhead 2: Joe Braccioforte scored from 12 yards out on a cross from Ryan Smith with 2:43 left in the first overtime to win it for East Islip (5-2-2) and clinch a League III playoff berth. Eric McKenna tied the game at 2 on a header off a free kick from Andrew Gross with 7:39 left in regulation.
Mepham 2, Westbury 1: Dante Ippolito scored off a deflected cross with six minutes left to lift Mepham (7-5) in Conference AA-III. Harrison Dorcilien scored off a feed from Stephen Polimei 15 minutes into the game to give Mepham a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Matt Waldman, who was called up from the JV squad Tuesday to replace injured Steve Fotinos, had five saves.
GIRLS SOCCER
Shoreham-Wading River 3, Babylon 0: Kari Quinn had a goal and two assists and Kelly Wynkoop made four saves for her seventh straight shutout to lead SWR (9-2-1) in League VII.
Stony Brook 6, Smithtown Christian 5: Gianna Scavo scored her third goal of the game on a penalty kick eight minutes into the first overtime to lead Stony Brook (5-4) in League VIII. Seventh grader Morgan Pius (one goal, two assists) tied the score at 5 with 10 minutes left in regulation. Senior Chelsea Bellini had a career-high five goals for Smithtown Christian (6-2).
Valley Stream North 1, Hewlett 0: Danielle Evangelista scored off a rebound at the top of the box with 25 minutes left in the first half for Valley Stream North (5-5-2, 5-3-2) in Conference A-III.
