After knocking out the entire slate of high school games on Wednesday, the weather delivered another devastating blow yesterday.

For the second consecutive day, all high school sporting events on Long Island were postponed, as much as 17 inches of snow was dumped on parts of the Island.

"Our schedule changes," said Ed Cinelli, executive director of Section XI (Suffolk) athletics. "Games that were postponed will be rescheduled for Friday or Saturday, depending on the available facilities."

Many of yesterday's scheduled games were postponed from Wednesday. There will be more than two dozen Suffolk boys and girls basketball and wrestling matches to reschedule.

Cinelli said Section XI will work in conjunction with the respective school districts to ensure that there are enough available facilities to play the postponed games.

Fortunately for both Nassau and Suffolk athletic teams, it is midterm and Regents exam week, meaning there is a much lighter schedule than usual.

"We did not have a tremendous amount of games because of the exam schedule, so we were fortunate," Cinelli said. "We will do the best we can, and I'm sure we'll end up rescheduling all of these contests."

After having no scheduled games on Wednesday, Nassau had only three games on tap for yesterday, all of which will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

"If it happened any other week, we'd have to make major plans to reschedule," said Todd Heimer, executive director of Section VIII (Nassau) athletics. "But fortunately it happened this week.

"It could've been worse," Heimer added. "We're just getting through it, and we'll face the music."
