Gonzalez wins 126-pound title at Gilmore
Brentwood's Marc Gonzalez defeated Central Islip's Giovanni Sanchez, 8-2, in the 126-pound championship match Saturday at the 25th Rocky Gilmore Classic and was named the most outstanding wrestler of the tournament.
Carlos Toribo (160 pounds) recorded the most pins in the least amount of time (four in 7:35) as Brentwood, which crowned six champions, captured the tournament championship for the 10th straight year.
Brentwood took first with 330.5 points, followed by Sachem East (306.5), Kellenberg (199.5) and East Islip (193.5).
Kappatos wins. Syosset's Evan Kappatos pinned Cold Spring Harbor's Dylan Cole in 29 seconds at 285 pounds and was named most outstanding wrestler of the Syosset Invitational. Kappatos also recorded the most pins in the least amount of time -- four in 3:42. Kings Park took first (269.5), followed by Floyd (239.5) and Syosset with 183 points.
Spurgeon named champ. Plainedge's Dan Spurgeon defeated Wantagh's Chris Loew, 8-3, at 170 pounds and was named most outstanding wrestler of the Ted Peterson Tournament at Island Trees. Wantagh took first with 374 points and Plainedge second with 166 points.
Westhampton 60, Newfield 21: Brandon Aviles defeated Peter Broccoli, 2-0, at 126 pounds for Westhampton at its Dual Meet Tournament.
Newfield 33, Bay Shore 24: Austin Nino pinned Devyn Edwards in 44 seconds at 182 pounds for Newfield in a consolation round of the Westhampton Beach Dual Meet Tournament.
Mattituck 57, Newfield 27: Brian Pelan won by decision, 8-4, at 126 pounds for Mattituck in a Westhampton Dual Meet Tournament match.
Mattituck 48, Bellport 33: Jacob Thorp won by decision in double overtime, 4-1, at 220 pounds for Mattituck in the Westhampton Dual Meet Tournament.
Chaminade 62, Lynbrook 18: Chris DeGatto pinned Frank Capobianco in 52 seconds at 145 pounds and Christopher Herlihy stopped Steven Rosetti in 1:07 at 182 pounds to lead Chaminade at the Mineola double duals.
Chaminade 73, Great Neck North 9: Alex Pickett won by decision against Jacob Sachmechi, 3-1, at 132 pounds to lift Chaminade at the Mineola double duals.
