More Thoughts From Massapequa's Win

A few thoughts from Massapequa's surprise run to their second straight Nassau championship. They defeated Wantagh, 31-21, in Saturday's final:

Chiefs  coach Joe Catalanotto pushed all the right buttons. He moved 189-pounder Conor Wetzel up to 215 to face Wantagh's ace, Tom Hall. Wetzel controlled Hall en route to the 5-2 decision.

145/152-pounder Chris Sarro moved up to 160, where he dispatched of Chris Loew via 8-4 decision. And at 152, it was Frank Falcone who somehow survived for the one-point decision win against Alex Wedel.

In a 10-point match, these shrewd match-up maneuvers paid off in spades and reaffirmed Massapequa as among Long Island's most consistent programs.

"It's great for the program," Catalanotto said of the win. "We're just going to keep building and improving on the last performance."

As for the upset win, it is always nice to prove some people wrong.

"We all believed in each other," Falcone said. "We put in the effort to win. Everyone else thought we were going to lose. People were saying Wantagh would run right through us, but we ended up just winning."
