Newsday Wrestler of the Year: Vito Arujau, Syosset, Sr., 138 pounds (37-0)

Arujau is Newsday's wrestler of the year for a second straight season and for good reason. The senior went undefeated and captured his fourth state championship with his Long-Island record 174th consecutive win. The first five-time Nassau champ ends his tenure with a 216-1 overall record. His only loss came as an eighth grader in triple overtime in the state final. The Cornell-bound Arujau won 24 tournament titles in his storied career. "I come out to wrestle," said Arujau, in Albany after winning a state crown. "If my opponent doesn't want to mix it up, I'll go harder on him. I have no regrets when I step off the mat."

Suffolk Wrestler of the Year: Adam Busiello, Eastport-South Manor, Soph., 120 (47-1)

How about this for the sophomore: Busiello is only the fourth Suffolk wrestler to win three or more state titles. He went 47-1 this season, which culminated with his third state championship. Busiello is an astounding 185-8 in his four-year career which includes four state finals appearances and three Suffolk crowns. "He has two more years left to wrestle," Sharks coach Nick Garone said. "A five-time state champ sounds wonderful."

Anthony Cirillo, Rocky Point, Sr., 120 (31-5)

Cirillo was a state runner-up at 120 pounds, owns a 185-25 career record, is three-time All-State. He is also a two-time Suffolk runner-up.

Jonathan Gomez, Locust Valley, Sr., 126 (40-1)

The four-time All-State wrestler capped off an impressive senior season with his second state crown. His career record is 155-15.

James Hoeg, Mattituck, Sr., 195 (50-2)

The Tuckers' first state wrestling champion has a 206-43 career record. Hoeg was a four-time state tournament qualifier.

Zach Knighton-Ward, Uniondale, Sr., 220 (43-0)

Say this for Knighton-Ward, he certainly didn't take the easy road to a state championship this season. He entered the state tournament unseeded and proceeded to knock off three of the top five seeded wrestlers -- including defending state champ, Terron Robinson of Whitman in the final -- to cap a perfect senior campaign. He sports an all-time record of 93-12.

Peter Pappas, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK, Sr., 152 (39-0)

Twice Pappas lost in the state final as a freshman and sophomore. But the senior was perfect this season en route to becoming the Hawks' first state wrestling champion. Pappas, who ends his career at 185-10, won Nassau championships as a freshman and senior.

Terron Robinson, Whitman, Sr., 220 (38-2)

Robinson leaves Whitman with a 1296-19 career record that includes the 2016 state championship. He was runner-up to Uniondale's Zach Knighton-Ward in the 2017 state tournament.

Dylan Ryder, Half Hollow Hills West, Jr., 106 (41-1)

Won the state title after finishing as runner-up a year ago. Ryder, who has a varsity career record of 84-3, captured the Junior National title in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on March 26.

Jacori Teemer, Long Beach, Jr., 132 (29-1)

The first Nassau wrestler to win four state titles, he has his sights set on becoming Long Island's first to win won five. Teemer owns 170-5 all-time record and recently captured his third national title in two years.

Justin Vines, Wantagh, Jr., 126 (49-3)

Vines, who owns a 168-18 career record, improved on last year's fourth-place finish with the state title. He won his second straight Nassau title after finishing runner-up as a freshman.

Tanner Zagarino, Mattituck, Sr., 22 (36-4)

After taking third in the state last season, Zagarino captured the state crown at 220 this year. He led his team to the No. 1 small schools state ranking two years in a row, and finished a stellar career with a 156-39 mark.

Coach of the Year: Cory Dolson, Mattituck

He led the Tuckers to the No. 1 Small Schools ranking in the state the last two seasons. Mattituck, which has won five straight Suffolk Division II titles, featured four wrestlers in the state finals this season.
