Rocky Point coach Darren Goldstein had high praise for Glenn, the top-ranked Division I wrestling team in the state, after the Knights defeated his Eagles 33-17 on Friday night.

"If we wrestled them 10 times, we'd probably win three of them," he said.

Goldstein believes his team is better suited for tournaments, as Stephen Dutton (140 pounds), Anthony Volpe (160) and Billy Coggins (171) are all expected to compete for county and state titles. But from a dual-meet standpoint, he sees Glenn (No. 1 in our Big 10) and Hauppauge (No. 10) as the top teams on the Island.

"That would be the match of the year," he said of a potential meeting of the top two teams. "Maybe the match of the decade."

Glenn's Nick Terdick was just happy to have the inside track at the league title.

Said the 152-pounder, who is a defending state runner-up: "It was a good benchmark because it's the probably the last tight competition we'll see."

Goldstein also praised Glenn's Mike Bosco after he ruined Volpe's unblemished record with a 2-1 double-overtime loss at 160 pounds (pictured above).

"Bosco did a masterful job of wrestling his kind of match," the coach said, adding that Volpe has been fighting off a high fever since last week.

But that match didn't matter, as Glenn sealed up the win before Bosco and Volpe even took the mat. Now, the Knights have their sights set on the League VI dual meet and tournament titles, a second-straight county championship ... and possibly even a state crown.

*Dutton, Volpe and Coggins all reached 200 career wins this season. To put that in perspective, only two other Suffolk wrestlers ever reached that mark -- Jesse Jantzen, a 2000 Shoreham-Wading River alum who amassed a Long Island-high 221, and Ryan Patrovich (currently wrestling at Hofstra), who had 210 when he graduated from Islip in 2006.
