Weather wreaks havoc with high school tournaments
A forecast of up to a half-foot of snow for Long Island has prompted mass changes in high school sporting events Saturday.
The three wrestling qualifiers for the county tournament in Nassau have been rescheduled. The Long Beach qualifier will start at 10 a.m. Sunday. Mepham's qualifier will begin at 3 p.m. Monday, and the Massapequa qualifier starts at 4 p.m. Monday
In Suffolk, the six league championships will be Saturday but have been moved back two hours and will start at 11:30 a.m.
The Suffolk fencing championships will also be contested Saturday but have been delayed two hours and will start at 11 a.m. at Whitman. The Nassau fencing team championship is rescheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday at Great Neck South.
The boys and girls bowling Suffolk championships have been postponed until 10 a.m. Monday at Sayville Lanes. The Nassau individual bowling tournament is postponed until Tuesday at Garden City Lanes at a time to be determined.
The Nassau swimming finals have been postponed until next week at Eisenhower Park's Nassau Aquatic Center, although no date has been determined.
The Nassau Class A boys and girls track championships at Suffolk CC-Brentwood have been postponed and have not been rescheduled.
