Charles Wang: We'll let Scott Gordon work the final year of his contract
After his press conference reinforcing his views on the Lighthouse (nothing new), Kate Murray (nothing new) and the Coliseum (we're here until 2015), I spoke to Isles owner Charles Wang privately about Scott Gordon, who is in the final year of a three-year deal.
“Every contract has a last year,” Wang told me. “We have to see what the season holds. We like Scott. Ultimately, it’s Garth’s decision.”
So that means no extension for Gordon before the season ends. Wang said there are some criteria for determining whether Gordon stays after the year, with the most obvious (and unspoken) factor being a playoff berth.
"You have to look at the whole thing -- how the team’s progressing, whether injuries play a role,” Wang said. “You have to evaluate: Are we better off with (Gordon) or without him? You do that all the time.
“But we like Scott, we like the way he handles the team. They (Gordon and Snow) are both great guys to work with.”
So don't expect anything more on this subject during the season. Snow has stayed mum on the topic every time I or Katie Strang has broached it in the last year, and he'll continue to do so.
