MONTREAL -- Philadelphia Flyers captain Chris Pronger will miss the rest of the regular season and playoffs because of severe post-concussion syndrome.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren made the announcement through a team spokesman Thursday night during the first period of the Flyers' 4-3 victory over the Canadiens that extended Philadelphia's winning streak to seven.

Pronger, 37, a defenseman, has a goal and 11 assists in 13 games this season. He has 157 goals and 541 assists in 1,167 career regular-season games in 18 seasons with Hartford, St. Louis, Edmonton, Anaheim and Philadelphia.
