Devils' Brodeur sets playoff shutout mark
Martin Brodeur got his 24th Stanley Cup playoff shutout last night as the host Devils earned a 4-0 victory over the Florida Panthers and tied their first-round series at 2. Brodeur made 26 saves in taking over sole possession of the postseason shutout mark from Patrick Roy.
The 39-year-old goaltender added his second assist of the series, giving him 10 for his career, four behind leader Grant Fuhr. Zach Parise, Steve Bernier, Travis Zajac and Ilya Kovalchuk scored for New Jersey.
Game 5 of the best-of-seven series is tomorrow night in Florida.
Capitals 2, Bruins 1:Host Washington evened its series with defending Stanley Cup champion Boston at 2-all as Marcus Johansson and Alexander Semin scored. Washington goalie Braden Holtby made 44 saves.
Coyotes 3, Blackhawks 2: Mikkel Boedker scored in overtime for the second straight game, giving the visiting Coyotes a 3-1 lead. Michael Frolik's tap-in from the left side with 1:26 left in regulation tied it and marked the third time in four games the Blackhawks rallied to force overtime.
Arbour upset with play
Former Islanders coach Al Arbour is upset with the headhunting hits and suspensions dominating the NHL playoffs. "It surprises me," he said from his home in Florida. "Never mind what it was in our day. It's getting carried away. They're getting carried away with everything. They're reckless in what they're doing right now."
Quenneville fined $10G
The NHL fined Chicago coach Joel Quenneville $10,000 for criticizing officials for not calling a penalty on Raffi Torres after the Phoenix forward knocked Marian Hossa out of Game 3 with a hit to Hossa's neck and head area. The NHL suspended Torres indefinitely for the hit.-- AP
