A closer look at the numbers

--The most obvious (courtesy of Islanders statistician Eric Hornick) is the eight straight losses in regulation. The last time the Islanders went eight straight games without earning a single point was over a decade ago during a ten-game tailspin from 12/22/97-1/10/98

--The team has not won a game this season when giving up the first goal. They are 0-8-2 when doing so.

--The Islanders have not had a lead at any point of any game throughout this eight-game slump

--Opponents have outscored the Islanders 36 to 14 during 5-on-5 play this season; in the past five games the Islanders have been outscored an overall 20-5.

--The Islanders play 20 back-to-back sets this season, third highest in the league only behind Buffalo (22) and Carolina (21)

--Dwayne Roloson is the only goaltender in the top 10 in Goals Against Average that has a losing record. Roloson has a 2.26 record and a GAA of 2-6-0 (that gem is also from Hornick).

--The Islanders are 28th in goals against per game with 3.33 (50 total) and 28th in goals for per game with 2.33 (32 total).

--John Tavares has one point in six games, Josh Bailey has been held off the scoresheet in his last eight, and Blake Comeau has not scored a goal in a month

--Basically, the only encouraging statistic as of late?  Matt Martin is averaging over six hits per game.
