Islanders coach Jack Capuano decided to divide his full-to-bursting camp of 62 players into three groups rather than separate by NHL and AHL campers. So the groups, which will rotate ice times each of the three days before Monday's two games in Newfoundland, are built according to the coach's specifications, but not built with an eye on future line or defense combinations.
Here are the groups:
GROUP A
Forward lines
Michael Dal Colle-Ryan Strome-Kyle Okposo
Nikolai Kulemin-Mikhail Grabovski-Jack Skille
John Persson-Alan Quine-Colin McDonald
Mike Halmo-Chris Langkow-Eric Boulton
Defense
Lubomir Visnovsky-Ryan Pulock
Griffin Reinhart-Travis Hamonic
Adam Pelech-Aaron Ness, Mark Nemec
Goaltenders
Jaroslav Halak, Phillippe Trudeau
GROUP B
Forward lines

Brock Nelson-Casey Cizikas-Josh Bailey
Brett Gallant-Lukas Sutter-C.J. Stretch
Justin Courtnall-Victor Crus-Rydberg-Ross Johnston

Matt Donovan-Matt Carkner
Andrey Pedan-Jesse Graham
Goaltenders

GROUP C
Anders Lee-John Tavares-Joshua Ho-Sang
Matt Martin-Johan Sundstrom-Cal Clutterbuck
Harry Zolnierczyk-Kael Mouillerat-Sebatian Collberg
Colton Gillies-Connor Graham-Scooter Vaughan

Calvin de Haan-Loic Leduc, Kyle Burroughs
Goaltenders
Kevin Poulin, Shane Owen
There are some interesting combinations and trios that you won't see once the puck drops in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Oct. 10. Dal Colle and Ho-Sang, the Isles' two 2014 first-round picks, are getting a little education in their first NHL camps by playing with Okposo and Tavares.
The preseason game rosters should be a better indication of who is where on the depth charts.
