Islanders add Benoit Desrosiers as Patrick Roy's assistant coach
The Islanders made it official on Friday and added coach Patrick Roy’s former junior hockey assistant Benoit Desrosiers to their NHL staff.
Desrosiers, 35, served five seasons under Roy with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League before taking over this season as head coach of Gatineau (QMJHL). Desrosiers joins holdover assistant coaches John MacLean and Doug Houda.
Shortly after Roy replaced the fired Lane Lambert on Jan. 20, there was an unconfirmed report from Canada that Desrosiers would be rejoining his old boss. Islanders president/general manager Lou Lamoriello quickly released a statement saying Desrosiers had not been hired but he planned to meet with him at some point.
