Islanders add Evan Gold as assistant GM and Hamilton Hammers GM
The Islanders’ AHL affiliate has a new home this season in Hamilton, Ontario, and, as of Monday, a new boss.
The Islanders announced the hiring of former Bruins executive Evan Gold as an assistant general manager and Hamilton Hammers GM. Ryan Bowness, Steve Pellegrini and Chris Lamoriello also remain as assistant GMs to Islanders executive vice president/GM Mathieu Darche.
Lamoriello, who served as the AHL GM while the affiliate was located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, will concentrate on working with the amateur, college and pro scouting staffs while continuing to be involved in player personnel decisions.
Gold, 46, spent the past 12 seasons with the Bruins after eight-plus seasons in the Capitals’ hockey operations department. He had been the GM for the Bruins’ AHL affiliate in Providence since 2023 and the team went an AHL-best 54-16-2-0 (110 points) last season.
“Evan brings a rare combination of experience, intelligence and results to our hockey operations department,” Darche said in a statement. “Over the past several years, he has excelled in nearly every facet of building a successful franchise at the NHL and AHL levels.”
Both Gold and Darche, 49, earned their undergraduate degrees at McGill University in Montreal. Gold attained both an MBA and law degree from the University of Toronto.
“My family and I could not be more excited to be joining the Islanders organization,” Gold said in a statement. “I am incredibly grateful to Mathieu and the entire Islanders ownership group for the opportunity to be part of such a respected franchise and to help build a Stanley Cup champion on Long Island.”
