Jaroslav Halak practiced on Monday but was held back from traveling with the Islanders here for last night's game, a precautionary move due to a lower-body injury that Jack Capuano said did not seem serious.

"We've definitely got some guys that are banged up," Capuano said. The Islanders recalled Kevin Poulin from Bridgeport to back up Michal Neuvirth for the game against Chicago. "We've got some time here until our next game so we thought it was best to give a few guys a rest."

Halak last played on Friday, allowing two goals in a 2-1 loss to the Senators at the Coliseum. The Islanders next game is Saturday in Newark against the Devils, with three planned practice days until then. That should allow Halak time to work back in.

Halak's longest idle time this season was from Dec. 21-29 when he missed two games with a lower-body injury. He returned from that break to win three straight starts.

Lubomir Visnovsky also didn't make this trip. He was a healthy scratch on Saturday against the Canadiens and was held out without a specific injury, though he's now been scratched seven times in the past 23 games to preserve the 38-year-old for the stretch run and postseason.

Leddy close to a return

Nick Leddy (upper body) missed his fourth straight game but was well enough to skate with his teammates for the first time since he was injured. It was his third day on the ice.

Leddy was a popular interview in the room after his skate, having been a Blackhawk for his first four NHL seasons before being dealt to the Islanders on Oct. 4. He could return on Saturday if all goes according to plan.
