The Islanders lost one of their tough guys Tuesday when the Ottawa Senators added muscle by signing Zenon Konopka to a one-year deal.
The 30-year-old center spent last season with the Islanders, getting two goals, seven assists and a league-high 307 penalty minutes (including 25 fighting majors). Konopka also ranked fourth in the NHL with a 57.7 percent faceoff success rate.
Konopka's contract with the Senators was reported to be one year at $700,000.
Islanders winger Blake Comeau filed for salary arbitration. He is coming off a two-year deal that was worth $1.3 million. He scored 24 goals last season, fourth best on the team.
The Islanders signed center Trevor Frischmon to a one-year, two-way contract. Frischmon, 29, joins the Islanders from the Columbus organization, though he spent all of last season with AHL Springfield.
