Islanders prospect Calvin de Haan out six months with torn labrum
Islanders prospect D Calvin de Haan is out for six months with a torn labrum and will undergo surgery Thursday.
De Haan, who has 5 goals and 19 assists in 34 games for the Oshawa Generals of the OHL, fell awkwardly and hurt his shoulder during the first period of the Generals' game against the Saginaw Spirit Sunday.
Although Sunday's spill was what ultimately led him to get his shoulder looked at, de Haan said his shoulder had been a nagging problem ever since he injured it in his first game for Oshawa after the Islanders sent him back to the OHL from training camp.
"It [stinks]" said de Haan, who watched Tuesday's Islanders-Capitals game from GM Garth Snow's box at the Coliseum. "There are twenty games left in the season and then the playoffs. It's very disappointing. I'm not happy."
Tough break for de Haan and the Islanders, who have seen their top two prospects go down with significant shoulder injuries in the past month.
Fellow defenseman Travis Hamonic suffered a Grade 3 separation during Team Canada's semifinal game at the World Juniors last month.
