GLENDALE, Ariz. — Semyon Varlamov is not quite ready to return to the Islanders’ lineup.

Coach Barry Trotz ruled the goalie out for Sunday night’s game in Las Vegas even before Saturday night’s 3-0 win over the Coyotes at Gila River Arena. Varlamov remains on injured reserve with unspecified soreness but is practicing with the Islanders.

After Sunday’s game, the Islanders will be idle until they resume their season-opening 13-game road trip in Nashville on Oct. 30.

"Varly’s the only guy that’s not there yet," Trotz said as Jean-Gabriel Pageau returned to the lineup after missing Thursday’s 3-2 overtime loss in Columbus because of a stomach illness. No further cases developed after Anders Lee was sidelined for Tuesday’s 4-1 win in Chicago for the same reason.

Trotz said no decision had been made on whether Sorokin or Cory Schneider will start on Sunday.

"I want to talk to Sorokie in the morning," Trotz said. "I don’t want to talk to him tonight because he’s feeling good. He had a shutout and the adrenaline is good."

Trotz did hint he might alter his lineup for the second game in two nights. Defenseman Sebastian Aho could make his season debut.

Milestone game

Zdeno Chara passed Hall of Famer Ray Bourque for the fourth-most games played by an NHL defenseman at 1,613. Chara is poised to pass Larry Murphy (1,615) for third place on the list on this road trip.

Chara can surpass the current all-time leader, Chris Chelios (1,651), this season.
