Islanders sign six forwards as depth insurance

A quiet Day Two of free agency passed with the Islanders adding only depth players who likely will serve as potential call-ups from Bridgeport in case of injury.
James Wright has the most NHL experience of the six forwards who were signed to one-year, two-way deals. Wright, 25, has appeared in 146 NHL games and played last season in the KHL.
Also signed were Justin Vaive, who played for the Rangers' AHL affiliate in Hartford last season, Ben Holmstrom, Bracken Kearns, Joe Whitney and Justin Florek.
The Islanders still are looking to add a veteran defenseman. This has been a restrained first two days of free agency around the league, so general manager Garth Snow likely won't jump too soon on a deal.
Snow signed backup goaltender Thomas Greiss in the opening minutes of free agency on Wednesday but otherwise has been focused on deals for the team's restricted free agents.
Anders Lee signed a four-year deal on Tuesday and Thomas Hickey signed a three-year deal on Wednesday, leaving only Brock Nelson unsigned.
