Isles at Flyers
Finals, Flyers win 3-1
Shaky start to the game for the Islanders, no doubt, but they got much sharper as the game progressed. Considering the mismatch between the two lineups and the disparity in schedules (this was Isles' first preseason game and the Flyers sixth), it wasn't a bad effort by the Isles' split-squad.
"At the start we were a little sluggish, but I thought for the second two periods we played pretty well," Jon Sim said after the game.
The irrefutable bright spot of the evening was Dwayne Roloson. The Flyers scored three times in the first but all came as a result of defensive breakdowns. For his first live-game action, Roloson looked very sharp, making a flurry of phenomenal saves at the end of the third period.
"I'm not sure how he made a couple of those saves," Matt Moulson said after the game. "I think he mentally prepared himself before the game to see a lot of shots."
Roloson said he was pleased with his first start of the pre-season and the way the team responded to a pretty strong Flyers squad.
"I felt great, especially considering that was my first live-game action and especially against a team like that. As a team, I thought we played pretty well."
End of 2nd period, Flyers lead 3-0
Islanders did a better job at containing Philly in the second, but still not applying any good pressure on rookie netminder Sergei Bobrovsky. Dwayne Roloson made a flurry of great saves at the end of the period, first with a kick save on a Scott-Hartnell breakaway then with a couple of clutch stops during a scramble in front. He's looking much sharper as the game wears on.
End of 1st period, Flyers lead 3-0
Not a pretty first period for the outclassed Islanders, who find themselves trailing by a trio of goals after the first twenty minutes of play. Jeff Carter tallied twice for the Flyers, first on a deflection in front at 11:07 then again at the end of the period to give Philly a 3-0 lead with less than minute to play in the first.
