Team Canada just released the first group of players to be included on the preliminary roster for the IIHF's World Championships next month and rookie John Tavares made the cut, as expected.

Tavares will be in good company with other young talented forwards such as Steven Stamkos and Evander Kane.

According to the release, the team will meet in Hamburg, Germany on May for a 4-day pre-tournament camp, including an exhibition game against Germany May 4. Team Canada's first game will be against Norway May 8.

The final roster for Team Canada (a maximum of 25 players) must be submitted by May 7.
