Isles trade prospect Jyri Niemi to Rangers
In the first trade between the Islanders and Rangers in 37 years, the Islanders sent prospect Jyri Niemi to their New York rivals in exchange for a 6th-round draft pick.
The 19-year-old Finnish defenseman had 8 goals, 21 assists and a plus-9 rating in 50 games for the WHL's Saskatoon Blades this season.
The last trade between the two teams was November 14, 1972, when the Rangers sent winger Ron Stewart to the Isles in exchange for cash.
