Jackman out three to four weeks with broken orbital bone
Tim Jackman will be out three to four weeks with a broken orbital bone, an injury he suffered during the Islanders' 3-2 shootout loss in Ottawa on Thursday.
At the end of the first period, Jackman was punched in the face multiple times by Matt Carkner in retaliation for Jackman's hit on former Islander Chris Campoli at the buzzer.
No supplemental discipline is expected for Carkner, who was given a double-minor penalty for roughing.
No setbacks for DP
An Islanders spokesman said goaltender Rick DiPietro was "feeling great" after playing a full AHL game for Bridgeport on Friday night in Providence, but the organization did not divulge further plans regarding his rehabilitation.
DiPietro stopped 25 of 28 shots in his third rehab start for Bridgeport, and Islanders coach Scott Gordon said he was encouraged to hear that the goalie had no setbacks.
"He had some pretty good work in the third period. It's good," Gordon said. "I thought going into that game that everything was going to be good for him. How he feels today and where we go from here, we'll see. But that's the first step, to get through a full game, and he did it."
It is possible DiPietro could play Sunday night in Worcester, Mass., where Bridgeport plays its third and final game of the weekend.
Isles files
Sean Bergenheim (rib), who skated with the team Saturday morning, will play "maybe during the trip or maybe after the trip," Gordon said, referencing the West Coast jaunt that begins this week. Said Bergenheim, "It won't help anyone if I come back before I'm ready and get hurt again." . . . After watching the 2010 Winter Classic at Boston's Fenway Park, Gordon (a native of Easton, Mass.) said he hopes his team is involved in the event in the future. "It was great. Great game, great environment," he said. "Certainly would be nice to have a Rangers-Islanders game in Yankee Stadium."
