Mike Mottau likely out 4 to 6 weeks

 After meeting with team doctors this morning, the Islanders expect to be without injured defenseman Mike Mottau for 4 to 6 weeks, according to a team source.

Mottau, who was hit in the right eye with a shot during Sunday's 2-1 overtime loss to Atlanta, is suffering from Hyphema,  basically an excess of blood in the eye.

After spending two nights in an Atlanta hospital, Mottau was cleared to fly home yesterday. The pressure in his right eye has decreased significantly and although his vision remains blurry, he can recognize objects and colors.

Mottau will continue to meet with team doctors this week, after which they hope to have a more definitive timeline.

The 32-year-old veteran was struck in the eye with a shot from Zach Bogosian with 3:48 to play in the first period of the team's 13th straight loss.

Mottau has three assists in 20 games for the Islanders this season.

Bridgeport defenseman Travis Hamonic was recalled yesterday to replace Mottau in the lineup tonight against Columbus.
