Lubomir Visnovsky was scheduled to have his concussion symptoms evaluated Tuesday by team doctors at Nassau Coliseum, but the Isles defenseman will not be rushing back to action.

He's on injured reserve until at least Saturday and concussion protocol dictates that he be evaluated after each of his next few steps -- first doing off-ice work, then on-ice. So it would be optimistic to expect Visnovsky back before the Islanders host the Rangers Tuesday.

Visnovsky was hit into the end boards by the Hurricanes' Riley Nash in the first period of Saturday's 4-3 Islanders loss. He needed to be helped off the ice after the hit.

MacDonald minutes man

Andrew MacDonald already leads the Isles in ice time, averaging 25:57 entering the game. With Visnovsky out, MacDonald added power-play duties to his long list of jobs and, while he's been successful -- Matt Moulson's goal in the first period left the Isles 2-for-3 on the power play with MacDonald at the point -- Jack Capuano needed to guard against burdening MacDonald too much.

"We don't play again until Friday, but that's definitely a concern," Capuano said.

"You just have to be smart. You're not going to start a rush late in your shift or do anything to burn energy after you've been on for a bit," MacDonald said.

By the numbers

John Tavares played his 300th game Tuesday. It also was his 216th consecutive game . . . Evgeni Nabokov is third among active goaltenders with 338 career wins; Tuesday night's opposing goalie, Vancouver's Roberto Luongo, is second with 354. Martin Brodeur leads with 669.
