Islanders earn franchise's first win
The Islanders beat the Los Angeles Kings, 3-2, before a crowd of 9,427 at Nassau Coliseum for their first win. Germain Gagnon scored with 1:09 left to break a 2-2 tie. Gagnon also assisted on the other two goals, scored by Billy Harris. Both of Harris' goals tied the score after Bob Berry put the Kings ahead. Harris scored with 3:21 remaining in the second period and with 3:39 gone in the third. Harris also took the first penalty shot in Islanders history but was unsuccessful against Rogie Vachon. Billy Smith stopped 28 of 30 shots in the Islanders net.
