Travis Hamonic out with upper-body injury

Travis Hamonic left Sunday's game in Dallas after two periods with what the Islanders believed was an illness. After flying here and resting up, Hamonic is now said to be suffering from an upper-body injury, causing him to miss last night's game here.

The Islanders gave no further details, but there is reason for concern that Hamonic's illness symptoms could also have been signs of a concussion. He is still with the team, though he is unlikely to play Thursday in Tampa.

Hamonic has only missed time with one injury in his four-year career, losing nine games in February 2012 with facial fractures after taking a slap shot to the face. He had played 117 consecutive games until Tuesday.

Defenseman Radek Martinek (back) could be ready to come off injured reserve.

Visnovsky back on ice

The Islanders got some good news from back on Long Island: Defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky was cleared to resume skating, which he did for the first time on Monday. Visnovsky has been out since Oct. 20 with a concussion, missing the past 40 games.

Visnovsky will still need several weeks to get his conditioning back up, so even without any setbacks, it's unlikely he'll play until after the Olympic break. He was named to the Slovak team for the Olympics but will not participate, even if he returns to play for the Islanders just before the Feb. 9-27 break.

Boyes happy in Florida

Former Islander Brad Boyes now is on Florida's top line with Aleksander Barkov and another former Islander, Sean Bergenheim. "It's been nice, even aside from the weather," Boyes said. "We've got a good group here, a good mix of young guys and older guys."
