Jason Arnott to the Caps, Chris Higgins to the Canucks
The last notable deals of the deadline:
-- The Devils aren't out of it, but Jason Arnott decided to waive his NTC to get a guaranteed playoff shot with the Caps. Washington parted with center Dave Steckel to rent Arnott for some leadership for the stretch run.
-- Former Ranger Chris Higgins, out with a broken thumb, is the last one out the door of the Panthers, dealt to the Canucks for D prospect Evan Oberg and a 3rd-round pick. Higgins has 11 goals for Florida, but now he'll be a role player on a stocked squad.
-- The Flames picked up Freddy Modin from the Thrashers for a 7th-round pick.
-- Vancouver also added depth C Max Lapierre from the Ducks for a prospect and a pick.
