Michael Nylander suffers injured neck in AHL

 Ugly news from the AHL, where former Ranger Michael Nylander suffered an injury to a vertebra in his neck that required surgery. Nylander, property of the Capitals on loan to the Panthers' farm team in Rochester, was leading the Amerks with six points in seven games.

His season's over and, at 37, his career seems possibly over. After providing Jaromir Jagr with the best season in Rangers history in 2005-06, Nylander's career took some odd turns: He enraged the Oilers by verbally agreeing to a free-agent deal, then backed out and signed with the Caps in 2007.

He managed just 80 games in two injury-plagued seasons in Washington, then got the Wade Redden treatment: Loaned to Detroit's farm team, loaned to Jokerit of the Finnish League and finally to Rochester.
