This is a big move out West. The Kings, in need scoring punch, kicked the tires on Brad Richards, but decided to go for Penner, who has 21 goals for the last-place Oilers.

LA gave up plenty -- its first-round pick, a conditional 2012 pick and prospect Colten Teubert, a big defense project who was the Kings' first-rounder in 2008.

Penner will help the Kings for sure and they didn't have to part with prized prospect Brayden Schenn or any of their young core.

And Edmonton gets to stockpile for the future, which is what it needs now.
