John Tortorellla last night did not want to discuss Michael Del Zotto's play after his first appearance following four scratches. Said he wanted to review tape. Well, he apparently wasn't happy with Del Zotto, the team's firrst-round selection in 2008, when watching the replays.

.            Del Zotto, the power-play quarterback who posted 37 points and made the All-Rookie Team last season despite finishing with a minus 20, was demoted to Connecticut of the AHL and Ryan McDonagh, Derek Stepan's classmate in Wisconsin, was called up.

McDonagh, more of a physical, stay-at-home defenseman, who arrived with Christopher Higgins and Pavel Valentenko in the June 2009 trade for Scott Gomez, was signed to a pro contract last summer. He is 1-7-8 in 38 games in the AHL, with 12 penalty minutes.

Tortorella had previously hinted that  Del Zotto, 2-7-9 and a minus-1 in 35 games, might benefit from a stint in Hartford because he was "making the same mistakes." including lengthy, rather than shorter passes, this season.

Del Zotto had been paired with Michal Rozsival, and it appears that Steve Eminger might move into that slot when the Rangers host Carolina Wednesday.  The three options for the third pair are McDonagh, Michael Sauer and Matt Gilroy. Would not be surprised if Sauer, another rookie, takes a seat for a breather. He has played 34 games and might be wearing down.
