The Wrap

Ever the realist, here’s two beauties from Tortorella post-game:

“The third goal (by Brad Richards) is probably one of the greatest goals I’ve seen; to stay inside the blue line and the saucer pass to Gabby. But they can’t get scored on twice by the fourth line.”

“Our backcheck sucks”

***

Ryan Callahan on the shootout: “I scored the last time, I went so this time. The game was back and forth with a lot of momentum swings. I thought we were a lot better than last night, didn’t allow as many odd-man rushes. It’s something we were trying to stop.”

***

Richards on the shootout goal and confidence: “I haven’t had this much trouble (before)…its tough when you don’t score in the shootout, when you throw out the other 65 minutes. It goes hand in hand: when you’re struggling and you score a shootout goal it can make you feel good about yourself and you feel like you’ve done something; when you don’t. you eat at it even more.”

Odds and Sods

Marian Gaborik (whose first goal deflected off Dion Phaneuf’s stick) and Derek Stepan each had five shots…Dan Girardi and Ryan McDonagh played more than 28 minutes each…Brandon Dubinsky scored off a goalmouth scramble to make it 2-2 at 15:29 of the second, but played a total of just 7:51 and Tortorella mentioned that he was not going to play if he kept making the same mistakes…Carl Hagelin was chewed out on the bench a couple times for defensive lapses, but played 19:29…Stu Bickel and Tim Erixon (2nd assist in two games) played just over nine minutes each….The power play was 0-2…Rangers are off tomorrow and will leave for Minnesota after practice on Monday
