Rangers fall to Caps, 3-2, ECS tied at 1 game each
Alex Ovechkin was on target, and the Rangers weren't.
It's a game of inches, and mistakes, in the playoffs, and the Capitals emerged last night with a 3-2 win that tied the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Semifinals at 1 game each. Here's the coverage:
A win at home, a loss at home. 1-1. Sound familiar. Sound like Ottawa?
Games 3 and 4 are in Washington Monday and Wednesday.
"All year we responded after losses, and this is no different," said Ryan Callahan. "It's a tough place to play. They usually come out strong."
Dale Hunter on Ovechkin's 13 minutes: "The one thing about that is that he's been real fresh on the power play."
"You look at the difference in the two games," said goaltender Braden Holtby, who stopped Chris Kreider's breakaway from the penalty box before Jason Chimera's goal that made it 2-0. "We hit two posts last game and they hit two in this game. That's how close it is. The hockey gods were on our side tonight."
Note: No one on Washington played fewer than 9:29. Torts essentilly went with three lines and five defensemen: Rupp: 3:53; Anisimov, 4:56, Mitchell, 4:20 and Bickel, 3:07
