The Rangers acquired veteran center Todd White from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for unwanted forwards Donald Brashear and Patrick Rissmiller on Monday.

White, 35, had seven goals and 19 assists last season as he battled with knee injuries. He has surpassed 20 goals twice in his career, most recently in 2008-09, when he put up a career-best 73 points. He is in the last year of a four-year deal with a salary cap hit of $2.375 million.

Brashear signed a two-year contract before last season, played just 27 games and was sent to the minors in February. Because he was over 35 when he signed his contract, the Rangers got almost no cap relief by sending him to Hartford (AHL). One report stated the Thrashers were planning to buy out the veteran enforcer.

Rissmiller is entering the last year of a three-year contract during which he has played just two games as a Ranger. His $1 million cap hit led the Rangers to bury him in Hartford, where he scored 20 goals last season.
