Goodbye, Gotham Sports App.
MSG and YES announced on Wednesday that they will be ending their co-owned Gotham Sports App in the fall and moving their content to DAZN, which will become the exclusive direct-to-consumer home locally for the Knicks, Yankees, Islanders, Rangers, Devils and Nets, plus the Buffalo Sabres in some markets.
According to a news release, “Current users of The Gotham Sports App will continue to receive uninterrupted access to the content they love as YES and MSG prepare to migrate users to DAZN during the 2026-2027 NBA and NHL seasons. Exact timing and other details of the migration will be announced in the coming months.”
The Gotham Sports App was created by MSG and YES Networks in 2024. It has been plagued by technical issues, but showed growth as fans migrated to the app to watch games.
The DAZN app will be free to those who have a subscription to MSG and YES Networks through their cable or satellite provider, as the Gotham Sports App currently is. There was no word on what pricing will be for DAZN as a standalone app. The Gotham Sports App has various pricing tiers for viewers who do not have subscriptions to MSG and YES.
Phil Bellomo of Massapequa, who watches Yankees and Islanders games on the Gotham Sports App, wrote in an email to Newsday: "I can’t say I’m sad to see the Gotham App go, it was frustrating at best. I don’t know too much about DAZN but I am surprised the Yankees didn’t partner with the MLB app like the Mets did. . . . I hope the DAZN app offers the stability the Gotham App never had."
DAZN currently is best known in the U.S. for airing combat sports and international soccer. It also brings U.S. sports such as the NFL and NBA to international audiences.
“The New York sports landscape has a rich heritage of teams and DAZN is honored to partner with both the YES Network and MSG Networks to become their exclusive direct-to-consumer streaming home, bringing the Yankees, Knicks, Rangers, Nets, Devils, Islanders, and Sabres to more fans than ever before,” Shay Segev, CEO of DAZN Group, said in a statement. “This is what DAZN does best — connecting fans to the sport they love and creating immersive digital experiences that go far beyond the game. It is a defining moment for us and underscores our commitment to expanding our footprint in the United States.”
Kevin Marotta, senior vice president of content and marketing for MSG Networks, said in a statement: “DAZN is a premier platform that operates all over the world and we couldn’t be happier to offer our fans this opportunity to watch MSG Networks content on their state-of-the-art platform. Coming off of a historic Knicks Championship season, we are excited to take our streaming offering to the next level. Fans of the Knicks, Rangers, Islanders, Devils and Sabres deserve the best of the best and we’re proud to offer the MSG and YES direct-to-consumer content through this partnership with DAZN.”
