Rangers have lacked a couple of big goals

When it comes to goals, the Rangers are singing the same old blues. They have outscored the Devils 5-3 in the first two games, and just missed two goals when Chris Kreider's wrister beat Martin Brodeur but hit the post and Ryan McDonagh's wraparound nicked the iron. Those would have lifted the Blueshirts past their Game 1 and 2 numbers in previous rounds. They scored five in the first two games against the Capitals and six in the first two against the Senators.
Saturday, the Rangers shift to New Jersey, and the road numbers aren't that impressive, either. In six playoff away games, the Rangers (3-3) have 11 goals: six against Ottawa and five against the Capitals.
Kreider's mark
Strange bedfellows: Eddie "Spider" Mazur and Chris Kreider. Each share an NHL record, scoring four goals before playing in a regular-season game. To get there, each played 14 playoff games. Kreider got there faster. Mazur, called up by the Montreal Canadiens for the 1951 playoffs, did not score that post-season. He tallied two goals in 1952 and two in 1953.
DeBoer likes the break
Coach John Tortorella repeatedly has insisted that the Rangers are not tired. But Devils coach Peter DeBoer said the two-day hiatus is welcome.
"I don't think you can get too much rest this time of year," DeBoer said. "I think both teams are in the same boat . . . Everyone can regroup."
Valentenko to KHL
Pavel Valentenko, who arrived with Ryan McDonagh in the June 30, 2009 trade with Montreal for Scott Gomez, has signed a two-year deal with the KHL's Avangard Omsk. He had been playing for the Whale.
